50 Bush Buggy and a Conservation Officer's truck block the highway after a horrific collision on Highway 66 in Kananaskis Country.
The scene involved a significant length of the highway, around a curve. Two people were fatally injured and a third was taken to Alberta Children's Hospital for assessment.
An RCMP officer sets out evidence markers along the road during the investigation portion of the incident. (The black truck at right belongs to a witness.)
A constable marks the location of a critical piece of evidence while the accident reconstructionist (far right background) measures its location. The evidence is a piece of pipe approximately 8 inches in diameter, and approximately 16 feet long.
The pipe reportedly fell off an oilfield transport truck, and went through this Jeep Cherokee. The passenger and driver were killed instantly. The back-seat passenger, a juvenile, was lying on the back seat and miraculously escaped death. The Jeep continued around the curve until it entered the ditch and stopped. The semi-truck was located in another town - the driver apparently unaware he had lost part of his load.
