A semi-truck driver was killed and several other people were injured at this crash on Highway 22 at Township Road 242.
A northbound 5-ton refrigerated delivery van rear-ended a car which was stopped to allow another vehicle to turn.
The delivery van skidded into the path of a southbound semi-truck, which tried to avoid the collision, but struck the delivery van, spinning it around in the road, and crashing into the ditch.
The delivery van's cab and engine were torn from the frame and thrown down the road into the ditch, where the driver remained trapped and required extrication, in one of the most unusual extrications our crews have seen to date.
The semi-truck was carrying large, heavy rolls of paper; the delivery van was carrying mixed grocery goods.
This is all that is left of the delivery truck. The force of the spin caused by the crash stripped all the components off the frame rails.
This skid mark shows the violence of the crash. The truck was spun around about its rear axle 180 degrees, coming to rest as seen here.
