LOW, Jason Alexander

1972 – 2023

To say that Jason touched many lives would be a massive understatement. He had a 31-year career with Redwood Meadows Emergency Services, as a firefighter, an EMT, and a Fire Communications Officer, taking care of the community both in front of and behind the scenes in so many ways. RMES and many other departments counted on him to ensure they had the communications critical to their success and safety, and Jay worked tirelessly to achieve that. In his role as subject matter expert at Calgary 9-1-1, he was an integral part of the Operational Effectiveness Team. His in-depth knowledge of how the radio and computer dispatch system worked helped not only the area fire departments that are dispatched by Calgary 9-1-1 but also bylaw, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Transit and others. Jay was generous with his time and expertise, offering solutions across the province, the country, and the continent. There is no way to know how many people were safer and better cared for thanks to Jason.

Jay had a number of other passions; he tended to get deeply invested in anything he took an interest in, and has made a great many friends near and far due to his love of rally car racing, anime, and baseball. The connections he made through these hobbies were extremely meaningful to him, and we have been so grateful to hear from the people he met in these communities. His humour, warmth and enthusiasm were infectious and will be sorely missed.

Jason is survived by his father George, his sister Jennifer and brother-in-law Rob, his beloved nephews and niece, Alex, Nick and Michaela, and a circle of friends whose kindness and friendship meant the absolute world to him.

His heartbroken family invites you to join a celebration of Jay’s life at the Bragg Creek Community Centre, 23 White Ave, Bragg Creek, AB on Friday, May 5th, 2023, at 1:30 pm.

If you wish, memorial donations may be made in Jay’s name to The Society For The Treatment of Autism https://www.sta-ab.com/.
