The Fire Ban for Redwood Meadows has been lifted effective immediately.

RMES Fire Chief Rob Evans, in conjuntion with town site administration, has issued a Fire Ban for the town site of Redwood Meadows effective immediately, due to the dry conditions.

No open fires, the use of firepits, or solid fuel barbecues (charcoal briquettes) are allowed.

Liquid fuel barbecues (propane and natural gas) are allowed.

Please check this page for a list of prohibited activities and exceptions to the fire ban.

By-Law #98-2:

- Violations: Illegal burning fine $100 / per incident

- Violations: Attendance by fire department for illegal burning  Contract Rates / per incident

This fire ban shall remain in effect until such time as The Townsite deems appropriate as authorized by the Redwood Meadows Fire Department.

Wildfire season is here!

We make our homes in the beautiful forest, and hot weather teamed with dry conditions and high winds are priming us for another significant wildfire season.

Here are some tips to help get your home ready for wildfire season:

• Clear leaves and debris from gutters, eaves, porches and decks to reduce chances of embers igniting your home.
• Remove dead vegetation and other items from under your deck or porch and within 10 feet of the house.
• Screen or box-in areas under your deck of porch to prevent debris and combustible material from accumulating.
• Remove flammable materials (firewood sacks, propane tanks) within 30 feet of your home, foundation or outbuildings.
• Wildfire can spread to tree tops. Prune trees so lowest branches are 6-10 feet from the ground.
• Keep your lawn hydrated and maintained.
• Inspect shingles or roof tiles. Repair or replace loose or missing shingles to prevent ember penetration.
• Cover exterior attic vents with mesh wire to prevent sparks from entering your home.
• Enclose under-eave and soffit vents/screens with mesh to prevent ember entry.

Use your head; wear a helmet!

Each year, more than 700,000 people in Canada suffer from bicycle-related injuries that require hospital emergency room treatment and hundreds of children die from bicycle-related injuries.

A helmet is the single most effective way to help reduce head injury and death from bicycle crashes. Helmets have been shown to reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85% and the risk of brain injury by as much as 88%. Approximately 75% of bicycle-related fatalities could have been prevented by wearing a properly fitted helmet.  Here’s some helmet safety tips:

1. Helmets are for everyone.  Adults should also should wear a helmet for every ride. Children learn from watching you, so model proper behavior!
2. Adults and children should wear a helmet for all wheeled-sports activities.
3. When skateboarding or long boarding, your child should wear a skateboarding helmet.
4. When it is time to purchase a new helmet, let your children pick out their own; they will be more likely to wear them for every ride.
5. Helmets should sit comfortably on the head all the way around, sitting level and stable enough to stay in place during violent shakes or hard blows.
6. Rest the helmet level on the head, not tilted.
7. Make sure the straps of the helmet form a “V” under the ears when buckled.
8. Have the strap underneath the chin fit comfortably snug.
9. Secure the helmet to the point that twisting and tugging cannot remove it.
10. Always replace a helmet after a crash. Damages may not be visible, but the foam can lose its integrity
